Uncategorized stops moving your budget

Spending you had not categorized yet was changing Left to Assign, and picking a category changed it straight back. The headline number moved for a reason that had nothing to do with your money.

Zero-based budgets

  • Uncategorized spending no longer changes Left to Assign. It waits on the Uncategorized row until you pick a category, and the number does not move when you do.
  • The Uncategorized row covers everything since your reset, not just the month you are looking at, so older spending stops hiding behind the month picker.
  • Tap Left to Assign and the breakdown adds up to the number above it, including the gap between what your bank reports and what the app has counted.
  • Some banks take a pending charge out of your balance the moment you spend, and some wait until it posts. The app works out which yours does instead of assuming.

Spending limits

  • Uncategorized spending counts toward Spent, so Left to Spend stays where it is when you categorize something rather than dropping.

Categories

  • Choosing Uncategorized sticks. It used to get filled back in the next time the app synced, which made clearing a category on one device pointless.
  • A category is guessed once, when the transaction arrives, and left alone after that. Uncategorizing to force a fresh guess, which the 1.2.2 notes suggested, no longer does anything.
  • The multi-select category picker lists your categories A to Z, with the same search box and shortcuts as every other picker. It had been showing them in no order at all.

Sync

  • Edits made offline are held and sent when you reconnect, on the app and on the web. Closing the tab or losing signal mid-edit no longer costs you the change.
  • An edit made in the first moment after opening the app is no longer saved on that device and nowhere else.
  • Banks re-send transactions when they are not sure the last batch arrived. One that another of your devices had already saved no longer comes back as a second copy.

Web

  • Tapping the Uncategorized row opens the review flow, the way it does in the app.
  • The banner telling you how many transactions need review sits under Net Worth, matching the app.
